Can I tell you what drives me nuts about change?

What is Karli's "word" for 2026?

You all know that everything I do is incredibly intentional and always has multiple layers to it. This year's theme is no different.

When I am creating my "word", there are multiple different areas that I take into consideration:

🧭 In times of darkness, how will this word be a tool to help me move forward?
🏵️ When reflecting back, how will this word help to show the journey of growth we went through?
🔭 Does this word have the flexibility to welcome opportunities that we wouldn't be able to anticipate?
📖 What type of story does this word create? What different ways can it be interpreted and spun?

When I look ahead at 2026, here are some of the qualities of change that I want to attract:
🕊️ I want more internal peace
🫨 I want more stability
💭 I want direct communication with my spirit guides
🪃 I want to confidently stay on the path, allowing small detours but returning to homeostasis

For these reasons, and more, my word for 2026 is:

CALIBRATION

What do you think of when you hear this word? What kind of story would this look like if it were applied to your life?

The video that started it all...

4 years ago, we created our first ever intentional "word of the year".

After realizing that both 2020 and 2021 took on their own themes, we decided to take control of what theme 2022 took on. We chose "Transformation"- of mind, body, and soul.

What will 2026's word of the year be?? We don't know yet but we would like to share the process with you.

Feel free to tag along as we "think out loud" over the next 2 weeks

3 Years Ago Today... Dec 8 2022

The day that the direction of my life forever changed. A story that I had only dreamt of was now starting to become my reality.

It started from a conversation with my aunt about the idea of travelling. It was solidified by this full-body of energy screaming YES at me. NOW IS THE TIME!!

My word for 2022 was "Transformation". The story I wanted 2022 to tell was one where I transformed my mind, body and soul. On Jan 1, I never could have predicted the story that would be written come Dec 8.

Now look at the stories we wrote... a dream of travel became my reality of 500 Days solo travelling, and a dream of starting a business became my reality of creating Kantency! All in only 3 years...

That's the power of story-driven change!

All stories have an antagonist. But they may not

All stories have an antagonist.

But they may not be what you think...

In a story, we are taught to think of the antagonist as the villain. The bad guy. The evil entity.

The cinema industry has been turning that concept on its head, rewriting the story of antagonists.

The "bad guys" are now shown simply as misunderstood, deeply hurting people with a passion for righting a wrong.

"Morally grey", if you will. Their heart may be in the right place while their actions are questionable.

That's similar to the invisible antagonists in your organization. They may be questionable in their appearance but their intentions are from a place of protection.

It's all a matter of perspective and digging deep for the core story motivation.

What looks like resistance, may actually be a story of protection. From danger.
What looks like silence, may actually be a story of protection. From banishment.
What looks like scarcity, may actually be a story of protection. From death.

What other invisible antagonists are in your organization and what story are they trying to tell?

All stories have a protagonist. In your organizat

All stories have a protagonist.

In your organization, there are likely multiple protagonists. Each person has their own motivations, their own stories and their own mission.

These stories are often at the core of the protagonist's actions. Their actions are a direct reflection of the story they tell themself.

Rarely does the protagonist intend to hurt other people. It's simply a difference in story-driven change.

A protagonist may be driven by the story of protecting their people, yet their people are craving a story of connection with the protagonist.

A protagonist may be driven by the story of creating a lasting impact or a legacy, yet their people are craving a story of helping their neighbor.

When we don't understand the stories being told by the people in our organization, we lose sight of the north star that's supposed to unite everyone together.

This is why it's important to ensure that the big picture of an organization is telling the same story across all areas.

Which protagonist story did we miss?

What is NOT story-driven change? There are a few

What is NOT story-driven change?

There are a few ways that people will set intentions for implementing a change in 2026:

𝟭. 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀
- Read 10 books
- Eat healthier
- Go to the gym 4 times a week

𝘎𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘪𝘵'𝘴 𝘧𝘢𝘪𝘭-𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘪𝘥

𝟮. 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿
- "Abundance"
- "Joy"
- "Creativity"

𝘎𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘪𝘵'𝘴 𝘧𝘭𝘶𝘧𝘧𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦

𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗻'𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗸...

These intentions are not story-driven. They are either outcome-driven or miss the deep hitting "so what?"

When an intention for implementing change is outcome-driven, what happens when the structure falls apart?

When an intention for implementing change misses the deep "so what", what happens when we lose motivation or sight of the big picture?

Remember... if Implementing Change is Step 1, Kantency is Step 0.

The Inner Compass Collective is Step 0. It's where we create the foundation, the structure, and the direction for deep, story-driven change.

Are you in?

What is story-driven change?

I want you to picture your favourite movie series, book franchise, TV show, or literary piece.

Picture the characters. Imagine the obstacles. Think of the plotline.

Are the characters the same at the end of the story as they were at the beginning?
Were all of the obstacles predictable?
How did the characters navigate the obstacles?

Would the plotline be worth following if the character gave up at the first sign of adversity?

Now...

Think of your own relationship to change.

Is change hard? Or is change a new opportunity?
Is change scary? Or is change an adventure?

If you were the protagonist of a beloved literary series of the same challenges, how would they navigate change?

How would you ensure that it became a story worth telling?

That's the purpose of the Inner Compass Collective... to create a story in 2026 worth telling.
